Set Up, Configure, and Sync DFP Custom Creative Templates

Last Updated on July 14, 2016

If you’re looking to leverage DFP’s custom advertising templates with BuySellAds, you’ll need to make sure that your DFP account is configured and prepped to interact with our ad servers, and then set up the connection in your BuySellAds account. Getting set up is quick, and it takes less than 5-minutes to get started. It’s worth it. Here’s how you can get it done.

Authenticate And Sync Templates With DFP

  1. Go to BuySellAds, log in, and navigate to our templates page.

  2. Click Create New Template.

  3. From The ‘Select Your Ad Server’ Drop Down Menu, Select ‘DFP (DoubleClick For Publishers)’

  4. From The Drop Down Menu Titled ‘Select An Existing Creative Template’ Select The Template You Wish To Sync With BuySellAds.

Once the template is loaded, your HTML and variables will load automatically.

Set Your Template Constraints

Where appropriate, you should set “Constraints” for your template tags. For example, if an image’s dimensions needs to be 600×150, you need to set that constraint. The type of constraint you set will vary based on the field type (for “Image” you set the width and height, for “Text” you set a max character limit, etc.)

  1. From the template page, click edit next to the template you want to customize

  2. Once the template loads, click the gear icon to the right of the variable you’re looking to edit it.

  3. After selecting “Edit” from the drop down menu, a modal window will appear where you can edit your constraints.

You’ll be able to set things like the “width” and “height” of your ad template.

  4. Click “Save Field”

  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for all of the variables that require constraints.

  6. Once you’ve finished adding your constraints, click the Save Template button

Create A New Zone For Your Ad Template

In order to serve your template using the BuySellAds server, all templates must be assigned to a new ad zone before running on your website. Setting up a new ad zone is simple:

  1. Login to your account and go to our ad zone creation page by hovering your email address in the top-right corner. Click on the Inventory link and select Add Inventory from the drop-down menu.

  2. Fill out your desired zone settings, but under “Template” select the template you saved previously in this tutorial.
